NYS & CT MTA Financial Plan 2012 - 2015

This is a start to a look at the MTA which we mentioned as being of interest earlier in the year during a round of  MTA meetings:

A mainstay of many of our daily lives deals with transportation and moving from one place to the next. Effective Planning on Transportation and how to move New York, Connecticut, New Jersey and other workers around becomes a key consideration of a day in Government, Industry, Business, Non Profit and Individual life in the Empire State. Effectively deployed, Public Transit also has a beneficial ability to make more efficient use of Energy Resources provided that the appropriate controls are in place. What should not happen in Public Transportation is spending that is not analyzed for efficiency. To this end the ability to follow and understand MTA Financials and Budgets becomes a useful step to engage your awareness.

True in all Financial Reporting is that the users greater connection to Financial Data adds value to analysis and ability to better support Fiscally Responsible Stewardship of Important Public Resources that are supported with Public Funding from the Federal, State and City level.

We believe in the value and benefit of Public Transportation, environmental stewardship and Fiscally Responsible Financial Decision making in the Public Finance Realm. Reading Financials,Plans and Budgets is a great place to start on better awareness of efficiency opportunitities that can better place services on a sustainable line.

State Senate - The Updates to the New York State Senate Website are looking great - positive steps towards supporting open government in NYS.

Judiciary Committee - S4008-2011: Eliminates the $5,000 limit on small estates for which a public administrator must file an informatory accounting

Rules Committe - S414-2011: Enacts a balanced budget requirement and creates the New York state governmental accounting review board

S4637-2011: Directs the metropolitan transportation authority to contract with a certified public accounting firm for the conducting of an independent forensic audit #CPA #Audit of #MTA passed in senate and was referred to referred to corporations, authorities and commissions committe in Assembly at 6/15/2011 - see assembly bills.

Rules Committee - S5875-2011: Directs the port authority to contract with a certified public accounting firm for the conducting of an independent forensic audit of such authority #CPA of #Port #Authority

NYS Public Hearing Calendar as Published 10/19/11

Ways and Means Committee - A1210-2011: Changes the fiscal year to begin on the first of May; requires the use of generally accepted accounting principles in the state fiscal plan

A3794-2011: Enacts a balanced budget requirement and creates the New York state governmental accounting review board

Higher Education Committee:  A4039-2011: Prohibits accountants from providing accounting services to certain corporations for 5 years after such accountant performs an audit on such corporation.      ***  Note A4039-2011 is a bill of interest to ALL NYS Public Accountants we will be following this one closely.***
